Recession Proof Your Beauty Routine

Recession Proof Your Beauty Routine

It's official, we are heading towards a recession. The first thing big brands do during a recession is cut costs by slowing down production time. But fear not!  we've got some tips to recession proof your beauty routine. It isn't just about makeup, Queen. You're going to need skin and body products as well to keep you going.

Keep reading for some tips!

1.

FIND ALTERNATIVES TO BIG BRAND PRODUCTS

Keep empty packages to help find comparable colors/products. During hard times, big businesses may discontinue some of their slower moving colors and styles to save on production costs. It can be super frustrating.

Back in 2010 when our CEO was still working retail as a Store Manager, the preparation for the great recession included discontinuing over 1200 items store wide which sent customers into a panic thinking stores were closing. You may not be able to find familiar items, but that doesn't mean there aren't comparable items from other brands.

2.

CONSIDER SMALL AND LOCAL COMPANIES

There's essentially two benefits to supporting smaller companies and local business. It first supports your immediate economy who may be hurting in a recession.

Second, a small business or local business may have options that are more viable for a long term when Amazon is out of stock on key items for days or weeks on hand.

Keep your package of the item you're trying to find a substitute for and bring it with you to see if they can help you or point you to someone who can. Small companies are under less strict guides as big box corporate stores and sometimes even have the ability to special order items for loyal customers.

3.

LEARN NEW ROUTINES TO AVOID WASTE

Maybe instead of full glam every day, you opt for a concealer and lash two times a week. Maybe you stick to the gloss and balms except when you are out for more than a few hours. Maybe your need will be switching to a thicker body lotion or cream that will go longer.

4.

CONSIDER HAND MADE BEAUTY

Hand Made skin care may help as an addition to your routines during a recession. Ditch mass produced skin products with ingredients you can't pronounce and opt for a simpler remedy where possible for your skin and body routines. For example, our hand made body butters have a shelf life of 1 year and can stretch that hydration a lot longer in a day  than store brand lotion.

5.

BUY AN EXTRA ONE, BUT DON'T OVERDO IT

Having an extra one of your favorite isn't a bad thing. But keep in mind all beauty products have an expiration date. Your product may expire before you get to use it if it isn't and item that you use every day.  Unlike toilet paper, which could sit for years, your mascara for example needs to be replaced every 3-6 Months. Take into consideration that hoarding too much your favorite beauty products may not be the best reaction to shortages or discontinuations.
